  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 tbsp red food coloring

For the Frosting:

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • ½ cup fresh strawberries, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For Garnish:

  • ½ cup fresh strawberries, sliced
  • White chocolate shavings (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch cake pans.
  • Whisk flour, sugar, salt, baking soda, and cocoa powder in a bowl.
  • In another bowl, mix oil, buttermilk, eggs, vanilla, vinegar, and red food coloring.
  • Gradually combine wet and dry ingredients until just mixed.
  • Divide batter evenly into cake pans and bake for 30–35 minutes.
  • Let cakes cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  • Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth, then mix in powdered sugar, vanilla, and chopped strawberries.
  • Frost the first cake layer, add the second, and cover the entire cake with frosting.
  • Garnish with sliced strawberries and white chocolate shavings.
  • Slice and serve!

  • For a stronger strawberry flavor, mix 1 tbsp strawberry jam into the frosting.
