Description

These Easy Turtle Bars are a perfect combination of buttery shortbread crust, gooey caramel filling, rich chocolate topping, and crunchy pecans. They are ideal for any occasion, from holiday gatherings to bake sales, and are incredibly easy to make with simple ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Shortbread Crust:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ½ cup brown sugar

For the Caramel Layer:

  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

For the Topping:

  • 1 ½ cups semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  • Prepare the Shortbread Crust: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Mix flour, butter, and brown sugar until crumbly. Press into a 9×13-inch pan lined with parchment paper. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  • Make the Caramel Layer: In a saucepan, melt butter and brown sugar over medium heat. Stir in condensed milk and salt. Bring to a gentle boil, then simmer for 5-7 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  • Assemble the Bars: Pour the caramel over the baked crust. Sprinkle chocolate chips on top and let them melt. Spread evenly, then sprinkle with pecans.
  • Cool and Slice: Let the bars cool at room temperature for 30 minutes, then refrigerate for 1 hour before slicing.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, toast the pecans before using.
  • Sprinkle sea salt on top for a sweet-salty contrast.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for 3 days or refrigerate for up to 1 week.
