Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- ½ sweet yellow onion, finely chopped
- 1½ teaspoons minced garlic
- 1 can (14 ounces) diced tomatoes, undrained
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- ½ teaspoon Dijon mustard
- ¼ teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- ¾ cup heavy cream (or whole milk)
- 8 ounces uncooked pasta (penne, macaroni, or shells)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Freshly grated Parmesan cheese (for garnish)
- Chopped parsley (for garnish)
Instructions
- Cook the pasta in salted water until al dente, then drain, reserving ½ cup of pasta water.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add onions and sauté until soft. Stir in garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess fat if needed.
- Stir in tomato paste, diced tomatoes, Dijon mustard, and Italian seasoning. Let simmer for 5 minutes.
- Reduce heat and stir in heavy cream. Simmer for another 3 minutes.
- Add the cooked pasta and mix well. If the sauce is too thick, add reserved pasta water gradually.
- Season with salt and black pepper. Garnish with Parmesan and parsley. Serve hot.
Notes
- For a lighter version, use ground turkey and swap heavy cream for Greek yogurt or low-fat milk.
- Add red pepper flakes for a spicy kick.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
