- 1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey)
- 1 small onion, diced
- ½ cup diced green bell pepper
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- ½ cup ketchup
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp brown sugar
- ½ tsp chili powder
- Salt & pepper, to taste
- 1 loaf French bread (or 4 hoagie rolls)
- 4 tbsp butter, melted
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
- 1 tbsp chopped parsley (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a skillet, cook ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Add onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Cook until softened.
- Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice bread in half and place on a baking sheet.
- Brush bread with melted butter mixed with garlic powder. Sprinkle cheese on top.
- Spoon sloppy joe mixture onto the bread, then bake for 8-10 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Garnish with parsley and serve warm.
