Description

These caramel apple empanadas are a delightful handheld dessert with a crispy, flaky crust and a gooey, cinnamon-spiced apple filling drizzled with caramel. Perfect for fall, holidays, or anytime you crave a sweet, comforting treat.


Ingredients

  • 2 large apples (peeled, cored, and diced)
  • ½ cup caramel sauce
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 1 package refrigerated pie dough (or homemade)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar (for dusting)
  • ½ tsp nutmeg (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add apples, cinnamon, nutmeg, and brown sugar. Cook until apples soften.
  • Mix cornstarch and water, then add to the apples to thicken the mixture. Stir in caramel sauce and let it cool.
  • Roll out pie dough and cut into circles.
  • Place a spoonful of filling in the center of each circle, fold over, and seal edges with a fork.
  • Brush with egg wash and sprinkle sugar on top.
  • Bake for 18-20 minutes until golden brown.
  • Let cool slightly, drizzle with caramel sauce, and serve.

Notes

  • Best served warm with vanilla ice cream.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze before baking.
